Reduce Desktop Printing Costs
Problem
The cost of click charges and consumables for desktop printers is expensive compared to departmental or production printers. Despite the possible savings, day-to-day print jobs cannot be sent to more cost-effective printers due to time critical production print runs and/or unsuitable stock.
Furthermore, large print jobs delay small print jobs better suited for output on desktop printers.
Solution
IDS can provide a simple and cost effective solution to route print jobs to a central location then output them on faster and more cost-effective printers.
Users who normally send their print jobs to desktop printers now have the option to print on departmental or production printers.
The solution uses SpoolQ - a proven document management and spooling system - to hold user print jobs in queues, ready for release by operators during a suitable time slot and/or when the required stock is loaded in a printer.
The solution is particularly suitable for large print jobs that would normally cost a great deal to output, and prevent others using the same desktop printer during the (lengthy) print process.
Case Study
IDS helped Provident Financial Group in Bradford to make good use of their production laser printers by installing SpoolQ within their central print room. As a result, production printers became available to users who previously could only access local desktop printers.
Print jobs received by the spooling system are prioritised by operators and printed alongside the normal production jobs when a suitable time slot and/or stock becomes available.
